The torture test

What makes a pistol 'reliable'?  According to ThePrepared.com, if it can't take water, dirt, salt, rust, mud and snow, it's really not worth owning.  Of course, Springfield is trying to live up to the new standard set, but really, I don't think they went to the same extremes.
